“The most mysterious painting in the history of European art just got a little more mysterious. For centuries, Madrid’s Prado Museum has held what was believed to be a mere replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa. But researchers at the museum recently discovered that their copy wasn’t just any copy. Thanks to the use of infrared technology, they deduced that the work was not only painted in Leonardo’s workshop, by one of his students, but that it was done at the same time as the master was completing the original.” Read More Here

Sparta,TN-United States

Born and raised in KnoxvilleTennessee, the thought of being an artist was only a dream that was far out of my reach. As a young boy, I could stand for hours and watch someone paint or draw. Many people encouraged me to try but I was convinced that I couldn’t. I held on to that most of my life.
Through the years I often thought about art. I held several jobs that allowed me to travel and my mind was shaped with different ideas from sights I had taken in and faces of people I had met along the way. Most of my early learning involved acrylic paints. It was the first part of 2004 when I bought a drawing tablet and a basic set of pencils. That day it took off! The pencil I held in my hand touched the longing I had in my heart. Pencil drawing is my main medium. I also enjoy pastels. It’s very easy to get lost in my work. It is my getaway. I love being able to capture personalities, emotions and expressions. I am a portrait and figure artist.

California-based artist Juli Engelgau has spent the last decade cultivating a name and a niche for her talents in the decorative arts and is pleased to announce the debut of Luxe Tapestry, her refreshing and innovative new custom line of one of a kind, hand-painted tapestries.

A self-taught artist, Juli began her artistic journey in her initial studio inAustin,Texaswhere she experimented with mixed media: faux-painting, gilding and other leafing techniques intricately patterned on large white canvas. In no time, Juli was exhibiting at state-wide exhibitions and conventions and became an overnight sensation. Juli’s works were immediately snatched up by decorators interior designers, professional athletes, major business magnates and everyday art collectors nationwide who simply had to have one of her gorgeous and unique tapestries. Juli’s creations are renowned today as stunning works of beauty that tastefully grace the homes and businesses of clients across the globe.

Heavily influenced by her creative close-knit family, Michelle spent her early years intoxicated by the imaginary worlds she and her sisters created with Artist father, Richard Ferrera. Michelle’s art, which primarily included journaling and sketching, evolved while studying at MontclairStateUniversity,Montclair,NJ. Not only did she refine her craft, concentrating on Figure Drawing, Michelle was accepted to be an exchange student atMacquarieUniversityinSydney,Australia. During that semester abroad, her journals transformed again; faces quickly sketched, colors and smells jotted down, a feather stuck in replaced the high school whining. During her final semester at MSU, with support from Professor and Illustrator, Scott Gordley, her solo show “journal idea” was accepted. “Organized Mess” was a chance to create her first full installation; combining her journals, sculpture, paintings, drawings and photos inside the gallery’s space as a cardboard box. Taking a risk, she left a notebook out for feedback. This was exactly the motivation she was looking for. After graduating, Michelle spent the next few years as a furniture painter, school and Wedding photographer, Art Instructor and Mural Artist, all giving flexibility in her schedule to travel. Experimenting with different mediums combined with traveling during those years fueled her brain with new ideas.

A long time resident of the San Diegocoastal area, Celestte is a self taught artist who paints for the pure pleasure of it. Celestte creates emotional abstract paintings without pretense or affectation. Inspired spontaneously by the color, technique, and emotion of the moment, her work evokes strong feelings and inspires the viewer through the visceral display of emotional intensity and the simple delight of bright color, energy, and form. About her paintings, reviewers have said “There is an undeniable rhythm and impact in every piece,” and “This art is meant to be felt.”

Celestte’s work has been featured internationally and is currently showing inSan Diego andSan Francisco in a variety of group and solo shows.
My formal art training which began several years ago, include The Art Center in Pasadena and The Laguna College of Art
and Design, inLaguna Beach,California. For inspiration I am indebted to the many artists who have gone before; Frans Hals, Eduardo Manet, Adolphe William Bouguereau and Norman Rockwell. However, the artists who could stir the emotions with their depictions of animals, such as Rosa Bonheur, Edwin Landseer and J. Alden Weir are the motivators behind my canine compositions. Recent exhibits include the Laguna College of Art and Design Florence and Rome Exhibition.
